Cyprus, officially the Republic of Cyprus, is an island country in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Cyprus is the third largest and third most populous island in the Mediterranean, and a member state of the European Union.
My wife and I went on the Authentic Cyprus tour orgsnised by Ruslan Travel today and have to say that this is one of the best tours we have been on.
We were picked up by minibus on time at 8.55 from our hotel and were driven to the harbour where we changed to a coach with one English and one Russian speaking translators.
After a couple of pick ups, we were on our way to Savvas Pottery, a family run business on the outskirts of Paphos. We were shown an excellent demonstration and talk where he spoke of moving from Northern Cyprus setiing up in the south. We visited the shop although there was no pressure to buy which you see on some trips.
Next was a visit to Sofia's House, a house in a small village where Sofia bakes bread and makes Halloumi amongst other delights. This is actually Sofia's house and you walk through her living room and bedroom then watch her bake. We then sampled her baking skills (included in price) and drank Cypriot coffee. This was an amazing stop, which we really enjoyed.
Next onto Inia and a basket weaving stop though we didn't see this in practice only seeing the exhibition. It was still a nice stop.
Finally onto Arodes to a church with a 92 year old priest who was there to greet us and get involved in the translators summary!! After viewing inside, we had time for a drink in a small cafe before moving on to our last stop, a winery called Fikardos. This was very interesting as the son talked us through the business start up and the wine process before we sampled the wine.
A short journey back to Paphos town meant a drop off back to our hotel at 4.00 pm.
All stops were very interesting and we were at each place for just the right amount of time. Other tours tend to take you to places and stops which suit the people running it but not this tour. We felt that the whole day was well planned with a comfortable coach and very knowledgeable translators who looked after us well.
For €24 each, this is a must do trip when in Paphos and we will use Ruslan Travel again with no hesitationShow More
